In 2022, NOVA Coating reported field trials in an abrasive ironing application using DC04 Supermod. In this specific application, a tool-life improvement of 216% was reported against the in-house and competitor coatings compared in the trial. The coating concept combines plasma nitriding, a hard multilayer PVD coating and a DLC top layer. Surface hardening, wear protection and tribological properties are considered together. The result relates to the described application and is not a general performance guarantee for other tools or processes.
